0-3 Alternative Treatment Unit

Aquarius O-3 ATU is a completely new type of sewage treatment using Ozone, chemical formula O3 and is a Western Australia Department of Health approved, 10 person equivalent system for use with domestic homes. The system can be easily upgraded for use with commercial sites.

The treatment process consists of four basic stages:

  1. Primary tank which retains the solids and uses aerobic and anaerobic bacteria to breakdown the BOD5 levels in the sewage.
  2. Secondary tank which incorporates aeration to further break down BOD5. This tank also uses Alum dosing from the Alum tank which acts as a flocculent to remove the nutrients and suspended solids and settle them to the bottom of the tank.
  3. Discharge tank which incorporates a 250L tank within the tank. The outer chamber of the main tank provides a settling and clarifying period for the water prior to discharge. The inner tank contains the discharge and ozone pumps. In this tank the water is disinfected by the addition of Ozone. Ozone is a powerful disinfectant, many times more effective than chlorine, and kills all bacteria. Ozone is a very powerful precipitating and oxidising agent which further clarifies the water. It is also very corrosive on odours.
  4. Finally, the discharge pump discharges the treated water to the sub surface irrigation area.

Easy to install, no need for heavy machinery, as there is no need to dig deeper than 2 metres. The tanks weigh 100kg each. The Footprint for the ATU is 5.5m x 2.5m x 2m deep.

Low maintenance, only 2 service calls per annum to comply with Department of Health regulations.

Environmentally friendly, the Aquarius ATU features “in tank” nutrient removal which is essential in environmentally sensitive locations.

Environmentally friendly, uses Ozone (O3) no need for chlorine or other environmentally dangerous chemicals.

Ozone is many times more effective than chlorine and the by-product of Ozone is Oxygen.

The system will treat the wastewater to current Department of Health ATU Standards of 20mg/L for BOD5 30mg/L for SS, <1mg/L Phosphorus and TTC’s to 10cfu/ml, using the Department of Health approved Aquarius O-3 ATU methods. The system is nutrient retentive.

Recycled water is used in sub surface irrigation for your garden. The size of the irrigation area needed for a 4 bedroom house is 150m2 in sandy soil conditions.
